Crash and Burn

I managed to get online and fly the Crimson Skies Friday evening with TriNutz and Chosen1. It was then that I came to the realization that I really suck at this game. No, really. Really, really suck.

I don't know what it is - I can usually do fairly well at most games, but I am having real problems with Crimson Skies for some reason.

Anyway, I also picked up Prince of Persia on Friday for $20 at the new Fry's that just opened in Atlanta. I guess I could have saved a little by getting it used, but it was there, I was there, so I did it. I also picked up a wireless controller for $17.

Tomorrow (Tuesday, August 31) I'm hoping to get SRS (preorder) and The Guy Game. TGG should be a good addition for Game Day with the guys, especially on those occasions when beer is involved.

16 days to Fable.

Guests

We had a couple over last night, friends of ours. They are to be married soon. The guy is very good with kids and played Fuzion Frenzy with my two rug rats. And just let me say that if I were younger and single, he would have some competition for the affections of his fiancé.

Why is this? Well, I think it would suffice to say that she is very cute, young, and Rich. Not "rich", but "Rich". She works in technology and is a tech geek. She was telling me that she needs a new Palm and was asking for my recommendations.

And here is the kicker: She mentioned that since she got her big-screen TV, she gets kind of dizzy when she plays Halo.

Be still, my heart.

Audio Files and Transcripts from August 24-25

All up on my ILB website.

Axons have gone hot

The Bungie Forums are going nuts with the ilovebees.com stuff the last two days. I have been transcribing the contents of the unlocked audio files. I will have links later once my web site permissions have been fixed.

PlastiDip follow-up

DaftApeth reported that his PlastiDip'd controller has had the B button start to stick. Mine was fine for a few hours, and now my A button is sticking.

I have not taken the controller apart yet to clean it, but when I do I am assuming that I will have to take some fine sandpaper to the button holes and clean out any residue. I will report when there is something to report.

Pink Slip Racing

One topic that I wanted to cover with regard to SRS is about pink-slip racing. First, an explanation.

In SRS, you can build your car up from the original unmodded pile of mediocrity to a blazin' street dominator. Race this car in the game and/or online with other players. If you are feeling really bold, you can raise the stakes by racing for pink slips, aka the car title. If you lose the race, you lose your car. The car is gone from your system and the winner of the race now has a new set of wheels.

Presumably, possible cheating is overcome by moving the car data into memory and erasing it from the hard drive before the race begins, so that you can't disconnect if you are losing. I'm not sure about this point - we will have to see what happens when the game is released.

Although I will probably not do this very much, this type of racing appeals to me. I would not do it unless I was fairly confident that I would win, and if lose I am not the type that would be upset by the loss - I'd just have to start over with a new car.

I'm of the thought that you should not bet what you are not willing to lose, no matter the circumstance. Take responsibility for your actions and choices and accept the consequences.

You may discuss.

Street Racing Syndicate

Well, I figured I would get one of the four "Import Mod" games coming out in the next few months, but I decided to act on the information I have so far. I may regret the decision, but I have preordered Street Racing Syndicate (SRS). It should be out August 31, at the same time as The Guy Game (TGG). I am sure I will get TGG as well, but I don't care too much for the TGG Preorder Bonus.

Maybe decisions like this will paint me as a libidinous lecher. So be it. This perception is probably enhanced by the knowledge that I will most likely buy Leisure Suite Larry: Magna Cum Laude, Playboy: The Mansion, and Conker: Live and Reloaded. And that I play DOA: XBV as well, of course.

Boobies!

RSC2 Pro Career Complete!

I have finally completed the Pro Career in RalliSport Challenge 2. After this, I went back and unlocked all of the unlockables, so I am counting that "complete". True, I have only 475 points out of a maximum of 720, but I have more important things to do.

I ran the first race in the Champion Career and got 8 points (of a possible 20). Not too good, but the challenge level has definately risen.

The kids played some Fuzion Frenzy and DOA3 this weekend, almost exclusively with each other. They are still horrible on FF but are getting better at DOA3.

I was surprised to see OrpheusSail on XBL Friday night, so I jacked in PGR2 and we ran a few races. It was his first time racing online and he beat my ass every time (nearly). He did get enough Kudos to rank up to level 2.

My son kicks ass

My 5-year-old son decided to play some DOA3 last night while I was busy with another project, so he went into Story mode and proceeded to beat the first four opponents straight through.

When I had a break, I joined him in a tag-team match. He did very well, finishing the match in some cases when I was knocked out. I am sure he will be even more of a threat once he learns how to do low and high moves and combos.

In RalliSport Challenge 2 I completed a few more races. I am up to 314 points in the Pro Career, out of 720. After that are the Champion and Super Rally levels.

I have quite a few items to unlock, and I do not see any good FAQ online. I am considering writing one, but that may not be possible due to time constraints. More later, I hope.

More RalliSport

Continued with RalliSport Challenge 2 and completed another few races perfectly.

This time I used my new rubberized controller. It is definately more sticky, almost too much so. It is definately one that will not slip out of your hands.

I played DOA3 again with my daughter the other night. The score was even, but I had actually held back quite a bit.

The Guy Game and Street Racing Syndicate both come out on August 31 - I am hoping for good things from them. Of course, once Fable comes out in September, I probably won't be doing anything else but that for quite a while.

PlastiDip

The gang (or some of us) had Bad Movie Night at DaftApeth's crib on Saturday night. I showcased RSC2 and RotK for those who had not seen it, and we watched an in-game preview of Fable. I have been reading several previews of Fable lately, and let me tell you that I am actually more eager to get Fable than I am Halo 2.

I also brought over a can of PlastiDip and DaftApeth rubberized one of his S controllers. He loves the new feel. I will be following suit myself when I have a free moment. The how-to is located on Metku.net.

RalliSport Recovery

Started back on RSC2 and am back in winning form. I raced several challenges to first place finishes, and put the controller away when I placed sixth on a hill climb challenge.

I am currently in the heart of the Pro career, with many options available to me. I will race a few more of the challenges available in order to unlock some of the new tracks and cars before revisiting my less-than-perfect races in order to better my score and boost my points total.

Kids on DOA3

I have skipped an entry; I have had two days of XBoxing since the last entry. I will make it up by having two entries, but I will divide by subject rather than by date.

My kids get 30 minutes of video entertainment per day. This can be in the form of television, computer games, or XBox. When they came back home from their summer vacation, they usually opted for TV, watching Monkey King VCDs or something like that. I suppose this is because that's what they were doing while in China.

For the last week or so, they have shifted to XBox. They usually play Fuzion Frenzy or Munch's Oddysee, as most of the other games are a bit too advanced for them.

I decided to show DOA3 to my 5-year-old son, since he has been watching some martial arts in the Monkey King videos. He also took Kung Fu last year, but not at a very high level, obviously.

I started him off with one-on-one mode, taking it easy on him, letting him learn the basics. He picked it up very quickly, and very soon I didn't have to give him a handicap.

My 7-year-old daughter took my place and the two kids had a great time.

Yesterday, I played a few rounds with my daughter. Sometimes I held back, but in the later fights she was doing very well.

I have many thoughts as to why the kids have picked up on DOA3 so quickly, but they are probably obvious. Either way, I will explore these at a later time.

RotK is hard!

I was bopping along with my new-found toy last night (Return of the King [RotK]), and it suddenly got hard. Very hard. It was a bit too much for me at the moment - I put that away for now and went back to RSC2.

Hmmm... maybe I was having an off night. For the first time, I did not place first in a challenge. I did four challenges last night, and got 20 points, 17 points, 15 points, and 20 points. 20 points is the maximum (first place).

I will have to go back and redo those. Perhaps on a better night.

Return of the King

I started Return of the King, and it seems very impressive so far. I am definately taking it to DaftApeth's on Saturday for some co-op play.

I have not gotten very far into it, so I will wait before delivering specific impressions until I have played through it a bit more.

Clan status

Our unnamed clan now has the following members:
grend (me)
DaftApeth
chosen1
ISuperGeek
phobos22
BeltFed5000
OrpheusSail
TriNutz

Anyone with clan name suggestions?

Welcome to TriNutz!

We've got another clan member on XBL now - TriNutz! I raced with him and with Chosen1 on Friday night in PGR2.

I've not been racing in PGR2 very much lately; when I have driven, it has been in RSC2. But I did play long enough Friday night to get to rank 9 online.

Also on Friday I bought Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I've had it in the back of my mind for a while, and Circuit City had it marked down to $20, so I picked it up. No time to play it yet, though.

My dad cannot drive

That is not a fair characterization. Actually, I threw him in front of RSC2 and told him which is the accelerator. At the end of a long and tiring day. After a beer. And to be honest, he drove better than I did the first time I tried PGR.

Let me rewind a bit.

Friday afternoon, we were preparing to head to my father's house for the weekend. We packed up everything and I snuck the XBox into the back of the van, telling my wife that I had brought it after we were an hour down the road.

I didn't unpack it until Saturday night, as a way of introducing it to my dad. He tried a bit of RSC2, and I did a challenge. That was pretty much it, with the exception that I did run the XBox a bit on Sunday night, finally finishing off the Amateur Career with a perfect score. Oh, and I started the Pro Career, but just the first challenge.

DaftApeth and OrpheusSail played Full Spectrum Warrior (FSW) for an extended period of time on Saturday. They were apparently very impressed with it. It is on my "to get" list, but I'm in no hurry.
